The Virgin IPA
Posted by Tamara Pollick on
Introducing my first all grain brew recipe. While someone once (incorrectly) told me to start with an IPA because you can't screw it up, it wasn't the reason the style was selected. I simply wanted to homebrew a beer I enjoyed the flavor of. The Virgin IPA was created and selected as our first all grain homebrew because it is simple in the grain bill, and provides a variety of hop additions for some depth in flavor.
I was confident we could manage the hop additions, and we had experienced dry hopping before, so this was essentially a test for us to manage our water volumes and temps in our new equipment and discover any hurdles that all grain may have to offer. We didn't experience any stuck mash and our sparge method worked perfectly to get us a nice wort to work with. Color and clarity were spot on, and if I recall it was our first beer that we kegged and force carbonated as well.
I'm doing much better at record keeping these, because the brews are starting to run together in my memory. I encourage you to try this homebrew recipe for a great homebrew for all seasons.
